Little Darling Photo focuses primarily on creating personalized images for clients wanting to document the early days of their family such as pregnancy, newborn, and early childhood.
My work is customized beyond just the picture-taking session. I will make sure to get to know your family, your tastes, and who your little ones are to make the best of our time together.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
Hello! My name is Tatiana, I am a Mexico City native, mom of two boys, and I have been married to my husband for 12 years.
I was raised as an only child in Mexico City in a family with a full-time working mom who wore the pants better than any man I’ve known. After my dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer failed due to the lack of resources, I attended college in Mexico city and obtained a BA degree with honors in International Relations at the age of 21. At the age of 22, after a boy broke my heart, I left the comfort of my home-country to find my real calling and to heal my very young-self. In 2005 I arrived in Vancouver Canada and worked as a nanny and a dishwasher at a local bar (boy, was that degree useful…)
Later that year, my now-husband (yes, the boy that had broken my heart), traveled across the world to come knock on my door. After taking me to meet his family, we unintentionally ended up on a journey around the globe. We’ve been together ever since.
In 2007, my camera skills began flourishing in New York City’s architectural and social scene. In 2008, photography became a crucial part of my life when I debuted as a professional photographer with a series of photojournalistic pieces published in Latin America’s most popular SCUBA diving magazine, “Espacio Profundo”, where my underwater, as well as my outdoor and traveling photography, was featured. View my underwater photography here.
In 2009 our nomadic lifestyle turned into a mission to find the perfect place to call home and to start a family. Two years later, we decided our home would be in Santa Cruz, California. Shortly after we settled, I became pregnant with our first child and so Little Darling Photo was born.
What makes my work stand out?
Through my years as a photographer, I’ve studied different styles of imagery, read many books on the subject, attended several workshops, watched hundreds of instructional videos, taken millions of photos, and have spent almost every day of my life honing my craft since 2008. Currently, I have over a decade of professional experience with photography genres varying from nature, travel, and underwater photography, all the way to the technicalities of newborn and early childhood photography.
To me, photography is a lot more than a click of the camera. I’ve learned that the camera is ONLY one of the tools available to create a vision; I make use of natural light, artificial light, reflectors, props, editing softwares, I’ve had to train myself to be a baby whisperer, a toddler whisperer, I have studied some psychology, workshops on newborn physiology, I am constantly exploring new locations, expanding my knowledge on how to make the best use of the surroundings to tell a story or create a most flattering environment for all my subjects.
All my images go through a process of production, followed by culling, and editing. Every single image in my portfolio was not only taken by me, but also designed (in collaboration with my clients), edited, and perfected to print beautiful pieces of art that will be a legacy to your family.
As a mom of two young boys that are constantly testing my limits, I get that photo shoots don’t always go our way. You never have to worry about your kids being too much for me, I have several tricks under my sleeve (and I can teach you some too!).
