What to wear?

Dress comfortably! I want you to feel and look like yourself, if something doesn’t feel good, you’ll probably reflect that on the pictures.

I do suggest wearing colors that compliment each other and avoid too many patterns.

If you are having a family session, stay away from too many plaid shirts.

For maternity photoshoots, I suggest tight fitting clothes that will show your curvy and beautiful pregnant body. A maxi skirt with a short top always looks amazing, or a tight fitting dress. Change it up by bringing a cardigan or one change of clothes if they come on easily.

Of course, if you can’t make up your mind from several options, feel free to shoot me a text, call, or email to ask.

What to expect and how to prepare for my redwoods session?

All redwood photoshoots are conducted on my “outdoor studio” up in the Santa Cruz mountains (just a couple of minutes from De La Veaga Park.

I have several redwood groves, a couple green meadows (of course depending on the drought scenario), and even apple trees fruiting during holiday season.

Protective shoes are recommended, specially for tiny feet. Be prepared to supervise your kids and follow my lead when hiking into certain spots. We won’t be doing too much walking though, the parking area is just a two minute walk away.

How to prepare for a beach photoshoot and what to expect?

Expect to get barefoot, a bit sandy, dip your feet in the water, and to have LOTS of fun!
Here are some important recommendations to help  you get the most of your session:

  1. Kids always do a lot better when well fed and rested so make sure to plan accordingly (bringing a snack for the little ones is always a good idea).
  2. Even on warm days, it can get a little chilly by the end of the session, so make sure to bring warm layers.
  3. A change of clothes for everyone.  I always encourage families to get barefoot and play on the water’s edge. It is a good idea to bring an extra pair of pants for mommy and daddy and an extra set of clothes for the kids.
  4. Bring a towel.  Even if you don’t get wet, beach photos are a lot better if you are barefoot, a towel to clean sandy feet before getting back in the car is ideal.

What is edited and retouched on each photo?

Editing is the most time-consuming part of my job, it can take anywhere from 10 min to 60 min per image.

MInis, basic, and premium packages come with a gallery of lightly edited images for you to choose from (with extra images available for purchase). This means that the photos received initially will only be color corrected and optimized for you to be able to select the ones to be fully edited.

All inclusive packages contain only fully finished edited images.

Fully retouched images are the finished products that represent the full quality of my work and cover the following:

  • Skin imperfections (acne, some wrinkles, uneven skin tones, discolorations, jaundice, rashes, etc.)
  • People in the background (your photos will look as if you were completely alone at the beach with your family)
  • Distracting objects or marks on a background, backdrop, or wall
  • Back and arm fat
  • Double chins
  • Add skies and sunset colors when possible
  • Teeth whitening
  • Extend and smooth backgrounds for newborn or studio-style sessions
  • Feature enhancements

When will I receive my online gallery?

It all depends on how busy I am. The average is one to two weeks. Make sure to book your session at least a month in advance if you need any printed materials by certain date (especially during holiday season).

How will my photos be used?

I am proud of my work and I like to occasionally post photos from my clients on my Facebook page or Photo-Blog. As per my photographer contract, I may use up to 4 photos to promote my business. Breastfeeding and naked photos will never be used. Besides that, I do not share or sell your photos to anyone.

My child won’t stay still, will that be a problem?

It is extremely rare for a child to stay still for a session, I don’t want them to! I like to portray who they are and get those genuine giggles. However a well rested and well fed baby/child does a lot better in front of the camera.

What if I don’t like the photos?

Unfortunately, due to the time that it takes to process images I would be unable to issue a refund, but I am happy to discuss options with you.

When should I book my pregnancy session?

It is always a good idea to get in touch with me as soon as you know you are pregnant to discuss your options for the exact timing and my availability.

Normally I schedule women between 20 and 38 weeks depending on each client’s preference.

However, I do encourage all expectant parents to get their point and shoot cameras out and take amazing pictures since day 1 (or when you just found out), until the moment they give birth, here are some tips to help.

Newborn safety

Safety is paramount to my business as a newborn photographer. No matter what you’ve seen on Pinterest or Instagram, your baby is a unique individual and I will treat him/her with kindness and respect.  I won’t force your little one into any poses just to meet photo expectations. With that said, I will do everything I can to learn about your newborn photo dreams so I can whisper all my wisdom into his/her ears and make them happen.  Either way, I promise you that the photos you’ll get will be all that you would ever want and need.

Posing

If you have any specific requests regarding poses, make sure to discuss them with me ahead of time.  We need to be on the same page as far as newborn safety.

If needed, I will ask for your assistance to spot your little treasure when being held by a sibling, or when propped up on a surface. Certain poses can be dangerous if not done with safety precautions in mind.

Please communicate with me

It is very important that you let me know of any questions or comments that you have before or during the session.  I might be the expert but you are the parent, if something makes you uncomfortable please say so, I won’t be offended! This way I can ease away any concerns, explain what’s happening, and make sure everyone is happy with the flow of the session.

Keeping it germ-free

For every session, I make sure to wash my hands and disinfect my clothing with natural non-toxic antibacterial spray.

I thoroughly clean my camera equipment before coming to your home, including my posing setup.

All blankets, fabrics, and hats are washed after every photoshoot with plant-based baby friendly detergent and stored away in plastic tubs.

If, for any reason, I suspect that there is a bug going around my home, I will not hesitate to reschedule. It is never worth the risk!

I also ask that if there is a sickness going on in your home to please notify me, due to the nature of my work it is important to keep myself as healthy as possible.

Every baby is different

Remember, every newborn is a unique individual, therefore I can’t predict what will happen in every session. If the baby is uncomfortable or gets overwhelmed by a certain pose or situation, I will move on to the next shot and revisit if time allows.

What to expect and how to prepare for my lifestyle newborn session?

Lifestyle sessions are designed for the families that want to capture actual moments of the family bonding with the little newcomer without the use of props, large backdrops, or decorations.

These are just a few suggestions for the two hour session to go smoothly:

  1. Make sure the temperature inside your home is nice and cozy (at least 72F).
  2. Avoid long naps before the session. It is best if the baby is sleepy for the first part of it, so I advice trying to keep the baby up for a little bit before your scheduled time and feeding when I get there, as I start taking photos.  *Note: If you rather breastfeed in private, do so 20 or 30 min before our scheduled time.
  3. When I get to your home, I will need to take a short tour around the house to spot the best lighted areas and visualize some shots I’d want to get.
  4. Have any special blankets or toys that you’d like to include in the photos handy.
  5. Expect to care for your baby as you normally would, lay down with him, cuddle, feed, etc.
  6. If you have specific expectations in terms of poses or shots, make sure to discuss them with me ahead of time, I want to make sure we are on the same page as far as newborn safety.

If there are older siblings:

  1. Make sure that they are well rested.  Also have snacks or lunch ready if the session happens during his/her lunchtime.
  2. Explain to your toddler that “Tatiana” will be coming to take pictures of the family to celebrate the baby’s birth and encourage their cooperation 😉 I will purposely steer away from playing too much with the toddler as my job will be to capture his/her interaction with the baby and family.
  3. Plan a mellow activity during the time I will be there. Reading books, coloring, eating snacks. Anything that will keep the older child engaged with you.

How do I schedule a newborn session?

Setting a date ahead of time is not very convenient as the due date is mostly uncertain.

When I get a request for a newborn session, I keep my schedule with at least 2 spaces free a week before and every week until the baby is born.

As soon as your baby is earthside, please get in touch with me to schedule the session.

In order to book a space around your due date, all you have to do is fill out my photographer contract here.
